Aechmea, a robust exotic indoor plant, is stylish and captivating with spectacular flowering. The most popular variety is Aechmea fasciata, also known as "Silver Vase" with its silvery foliage and drooping bracts in a bright pink. Aechmea comes in several charming varieties. Aechmea ‘Blue Rain’ stands out with its spectacular inflorescence, featuring intensely blue flowers on a bright red spike and purple bracts, all forming a floral spike that can reach 40 cm in height. More understated, but equally elegant, Aechmea ‘Primera’ develops beautiful silver foliage without thorns. Aechmea ‘Elegant Pink’ brightens interiors with its bright pink bracts that contrast beautifully with its vibrant green foliage.
Native to the humid forests of Central and South America, Aechmea belongs to the Bromeliad family, like the pineapple. Its rosette foliage, forming a natural reservoir, and its often thorny, leathery leaves make it a plant as beautiful as it is fascinating. Dimensions vary depending on the species, but most reach 50 to 70 cm in height.
Aechmea requires little maintenance: bright light without direct sunlight, slightly moist soil (but never waterlogged), and a humid atmosphere. Place some non-calcareous water in the centre of the rosette, spray regularly, and avoid temperatures below 13°C.
