Description

The geraniums of this Inspire Mix collection are compact and highly floriferous plants that exhibit excellent performance in flowerbeds. Very bushy, they are adorned, from early spring until the first frost, with large flowers that can be pure white, soft pink, salmon pink, bright pink, or vibrant red, depending on the plants. The 'Inspire' geraniums allow you to create a decor full of fantasy and colour in borders, flowerbeds, flowering pots, and planters.

The pelargoniums of the zonal group are perennial hybrids from the geranium family, in a vast group called Pelargonium x hortorum. They are mostly the result of cross-breeding several Pelargoniums native to the southeastern tip of Africa. The 'Inspire' geraniums constitute a group of hybrids that are distinguished by their rapid flowering, which occurs 10 to 12 weeks after germination. Each plant forms an erect, densely branched tuft in a few weeks, with modest growth, reaching approximately 30 to 40cm (11.8 to 15.7in) in all directions. They are in bloom from spring to October, displaying large compound umbels of single, brightly coloured flowers. They are enhanced by a well-furnished foliage, with each leaf adorned with a wide, very dark to brownish green halo on a dark green background. The succulent stems bear overall circular, undulate, thick-textured, and fragrant leaves. The cultivation of 'Inspire' geraniums presents no difficulty, both in open ground and in pots.

Once reserved for balconies and terraces, the new pelargoniums are making a highly noticeable entrance into sunny flowerbeds and borders. Plant them in mass to create a lasting and cheerful decor throughout the beautiful season. These plants tolerate water shortage quite well, allowing them to be combined with garden verbenas, lobelias with unheard-of blues, Ipomeas with black or purple foliage (Ipomoea 'Illusion Midnight Lace', Ipomoea 'Sweet Heart Purple'). Create magnificent pots and hanging baskets by combining them with white or red varieties, Million Bells, variegated periwinkles, Dichondra 'Silver Falls', violets, Calibrachoas, or Bacopas.

Note: Please be aware that our plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, transplant them and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2 °F) for a few weeks before being installed outdoors once the risk of frost has definitively passed.

Planting and care

Zonal geraniums Inspire thrive in fertile, well-drained, well-tilled soil and in full sun or partial shade in warm regions. Geraniums are young plants that require regular fertilization to give their best. You can plant the pelargoniums as early as March-April in mild climate regions, but you will need to bring them indoors in case of frost. To avoid any risk, wait until the end of frost to place them outside, usually around May in the North. When planting in pots or containers, use special geranium compost. In the garden, wait until the end of April or even mid-May in the northernmost regions to plant them in the ground and provide a special geranium growing support to your soil. Water abundantly, but spaced out to allow the soil surface to dry between two watering sessions.
