Hardy geraniums have the advantage of sometimes offering very long flowering, from spring until the first frosts. Their flowers come in rather soft and romantic hues, but can also be quite contrasting as seen in Geranium psilostemon and Geranium ‘Dragon Heart’. To enjoy long-lasting flowering, avoid varieties derived from Geranium pratense, as well as Geranium ibericum: although remarkable for their colours, they offer less enduring flowering. Instead, choose varieties like ‘Dragon Heart’ or ‘Rozanne’, and pair them with other long-flowering perennials, such as nepetas, bellflowers, gauras or agapanthus.
