Planted in spring 2021, they are well established and have grown nicely. They bloom for a long time and form a beautiful clump, but unfortunately, every year they are attacked by caterpillars (brown butterflies). I managed to save them for now. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for them to come back this year.

Description

The Perennial Geranium Rozanne is a two-tone flowering plant that boasts uninterrupted blooms for months and is highly successful worldwide. It was even named "Plant of the Century" at the 2013 Chelsea Flower Show.

Perennial geraniums with two-tone flowers that are easy to grow are quite rare. The best-known variety, Geranium wallichianum, has remarkable blue flowers with white centres but can be challenging to cultivate. It thrives only in light soils and doesn't tolerate excess water. However, Geranium Rozanne shares the same characteristics, producing blue flowers with white centres approximately 5 cm (2 inches) in diameter. It blooms from late spring to autumn without interruption and boasts large, apple-green leaves with slight dark green markings in the centre. It has a creeping habit, spreading to form semi-bushy mats 20 to 30 cm (11.8 in) in height and 50 cm (19.7 in) in width.

This plant is unique in its ease of cultivation. It can grow in full sun or partial shade and still thrive. Interestingly, when grown in partial shade, its flowers appear more vibrant. It is a hardy plant that can withstand cold weather, even when damp, down to -16°C. It is not affected by heavy soils and excess water but prefers to grow in light, moist, and nutrient-rich soils.

It is also versatile and can be used to landscape slopes without requiring excessive watering. It can also be used as a border for flower beds alongside other easy-to-grow perennials like Nepeta 'Six Hill Giant', heucheras, and Phlox paniculata. Additionally, it can be used to fill the base of old shrub roses, adding interest to your garden during the summer.

Planting and care

When planting Geranium 'Rozanne', work the soil to a depth of 20 cm (7.9 inches). Break up the ground well and sprinkle blood, fish and bone in the planting hole. Take the young plant out of its pot and position it, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1.2 inches) of soil. Fill the hole and water generously to get rid of any air pockets. It's important to water regularly for a few weeks in dry weather to help the roots grow.
