My rabbits love this cabbage, and the hens enjoy eating the leaves in winter when they don't have much greenery. Moreover, it withstands the cold very well.

Description

'Proteor' Fodder Cabbage is a hardy and very productive variety destined for animal feed (rabbits, cattle, sheep). It produces uniform leafy stems that can grow over 1 m in height. This INRA selection is particularly rich in nitrogen, calcium and phosphorus.

Sow in a seedbed from March to May, transplant 6 to 8 weeks later. Alternatively, direct sow in July-August (30 g of seed per 100 m2). Harvest the leaves as and when required, from September to late March.

Planting and care

Sowing:

Sow in a seedbed from March to May, transplant 6 to 8 weeks later. Alternatively, direct sow in July-

August (30 g of seed per 100 m2). Allow 60 cm between each plant and 50 cm between each row.

 

Cultivation:

Fodder cabbage thrives in rich, cool, slightly clayey soils. During the growing season, apply complete fertilizer if necessary to encourage head formation. Water and weed regularly.
