Description

These perennials, which used to belong to the Polygonum genus and were later called Reynoutria, may now have found their definitive name. These vigorous plants can become very invasive. Some have even become naturalised in Europe to the point of supplanting local weeds when conditions are right for them.

(F. japonica x F. sachalinensis ) Stems are coral-red when they emerge from the ground, turning green and bearing large, heart-shaped leaves that are variegated and spotted with light green, cream and pink. Sometimes, the leaves are entirely white, rarely entirely green. Protect from direct sunlight, which scorches the lighter parts of the foliage. Less vigorous than its predecessor. Quite rare in cultivation.
