Our Mammillaria collection. Smaller and more floriferous than Ferocactus or Echinocactus, the Mammillaria form a highly diverse genus of small globose or cylindrical cacti well-suited to pot cultivation. Native to Mexico and the southern United States, they are prized for their crown-shaped flowering, and are easy to integrate into a collection of indoor cacti and succulents.

Among the species offered, the Mammillaria elongata 'Cristata' is one of the most popular. It is called the brain cactus due to its crested stems, tightly packed together in a convolute mass. The globose Mammillaria muehlenpfordtii stands out with its pale pink crown-shaped flowering and regular areoles on slightly spiralled midribs. The wider spreading Mammillaria compressa forms cushions of cylindrical stems with robust thorns and discreet yet regular flowering.

These cacti require a very well-draining substrate, a sunny exposure, moderate watering in summer, and a dry winter rest between 5 and 12°C. They will appreciate being placed outdoors during fine weather.
