The planting mattock resembles a narrow, long hoe with a small 30 cm (12in) handle. It is used in the same way but its small dimensions make it more suitable for versatile and precise use on small garden surfaces, even those already planted. It is a small hand tool designed for weeding without the use of chemicals and working the surface of the soil. Its heavy head is specially adapted for breaking up the surface and compact and heavy soils. Closer to a pickaxe than a hoe, it is used for crumbling and loosening the top layer of soil after digging, uprooting unwanted plants, mounding up vegetables (i.e. gathering soil into a mound around their base), or even digging shallow holes and furrows for planting. Like a hoe, the mattock is used to loosen and aerate the top layer of soil, providing aeration around plants in the vegetable garden or ornamental garden. It also helps prevent the formation of a compacted layer that can occur due to watering or rain in clayey or loamy soils. This hard and compacted layer, which is very difficult to rehydrate and suffocating for plants, also promotes the rise of water to the surface and its evaporation. Working the soil on the surface after watering limits water evaporation. This model is equipped with a fully hardened and tempered forged steel head for better resistance to wear. Its 29 cm (11in) long and 5.2 cm (2in) wide head makes it a perfect tool for quick, occasional work on small areas such as in a vegetable garden or a bed of annual plants. Its conical socket ensures a perfectly stable connection between the head and the handle, and easy replacement of the handle. The wood used for its handle comes from sustainably managed forests and is 100% PEFC certified. With a length of 30 cm (12in), it is lightweight and has an oval section, ensuring a comfortable grip. Its pierced end allows for hanging storage. This tool is assembled in France.

Directions for use The "mattock" is a small hand tool, closer to a pickaxe than a hoe, and is very useful for carrying out a variety of small tasks quickly and precisely, particularly necessary in the vegetable garden or flower bed. It is designed like a hoe, to weed the vegetable garden or ornamental garden without resorting to the use of chemical products and to work the surface soil. The gardener can use a mattock to loosen, aerate, and refine the top layer of soil around the established crops and dig shallow planting holes or furrows. It allows for easy removal of unwanted plants, but also for earthing up vegetables (gathering the soil into a mound at the base of the plants). Clean your tool after use and store it away from the weather.
