Hydrangea quercifolia is so named because its leaves have the same shape as those of the oak tree, Quercus in Latin. Native to North America, the oakleaf hydrangea forms a small bush, often wider than tall. In late summer, it produces magnificent paniculate inflorescences, upright or trailing, in white, cream, or pink depending on the varieties. Its deciduous leaves, dark green in colour, turn brown, red, or bronze in early autumn as the evenings cool down. Unlike its Asian counterparts, Hydrangea quercifolia thrives in the sun, growing in full light, in light and moist soil. Along with Hydrangea arborescens, it is one of the few that can tolerate relative summer dryness. Whether in a pot or in the ground, it will grow at the edge or in the back of a flowerbed, either on its own or alongside perennials such as phlox, Japanese anemones, rudbeckias, etc...

You'll adore them!
