Hydrangea quercifolia Harmony
Hydrangea quercifolia Harmony
Disappointed with the appearance of the hydrangea, leafless and very scrawny. I hope it will develop properly.

Hydrangea quercifolia Harmony is a very unique hydrangea with its oak-like leaves and its long, generous flowering with large, very compact 30 cm (11.8 in) white panicles. With its bushy habit, it is ideal for pot cultivation on balconies and terraces.
Also called Oakleaf Hydrangea, it has large deciduous and dentate dark green leaves, 30 cm (11.8 in) long, that turn a purplish red in the autumn. From August to October, pyramidal inflorescences, 30 cm (11.8 in) long and 20 cm (7.9 in) wide, form large panicles of sterile flowers in an off-white colour that turns reddish in the autumn. Hydrangea quercifolia flowers on old wood.
Hydrangea quercifolia Harmony is not very ramified and grows slowly up to 2.5 m (8 ft) in height and width. It appreciates a light, well-drained, fresh soil, in a sunny location but one that is always sheltered from cold and dry winds. Mix heath soil with your garden soil. It is a hardy shrub that is easy to grow and requires little maintenance.
Hydrangea quercifolia Harmony should be placed in the sun or partial shade. Pair it with other hydrangeas, ferns, lamiums or conifers for a beautiful contrast.
Advice: Hydrangeas do not need pruning to flower. Remove dead wood and faded flowers at the end of winter. Be careful! Hydrangea quercifolia takes a long time to reflower after hard pruning!

Botanical data
Hydrangea quercifolia Harmony is planted in spring or autumn in a fresh, humus-bearing and well-drained soil. It appreciates a semi-shaded or sunny exposure depending on the humidity of the soil. Mulch the soil with pine bark to maintain freshness and acidity. Prune the dried flowers on the young plant after frosts in order to protect future shoots. Every two years, prune one stem out of every three to rejuvenate the hydrangea. Be careful: the flowers only form on old wood! The plant's spring vegetation appears rather late.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
