The 'Promesse de Fleurs' compost activator, enriched with organic matter, helps accelerate the decomposition process of kitchen and garden waste, resulting in homemade compost that nourishes all the plants in the garden more quickly. Ready to use and compatible with organic gardening, it comes in the form of granules that are mixed with the waste pile. A 500-gram bag can treat approximately 0.5m3 of compost.

This organo-mineral compost activator comes from both organic matter from living organisms and inert mineral matter such as certain rocks. Its goal is to provide the necessary nutrients to the soil's micro-organisms, bacteria, worms, larvae, and fungi, which are responsible for decomposing plant waste into elements that can be assimilated by the plant roots. The compost activator initiates and activates a natural process that usually takes months to occur if the gardener does not intervene or if optimal conditions are not met. Indeed, composting requires the correct level of moisture for the development and multiplication of the microorganisms that 'digest' the waste, as well as sufficient aeration and an adequate temperature. Adding pre-decomposed organic matter to the compost activator also promotes a faster start to the decomposition process.

In this Promesse de Fleurs compost activator, which has the formulation NPK 9-5-0, nitrogen (N) is present at a level of 9%, with 8.5% of organic nitrogen provided by animal proteins (bone powder and hydrolyzed meat) and phosphorus in the form of phosphoric anhydride (P205) at a level of 5%. To make your homemade compost:

• Place your compost bin in a shaded area to ensure proper fermentation and protect the compost from rain by closing the lid.
• Add kitchen and garden waste (peelings, clippings, brush, etc.) in successive layers and avoid adding weeds with seeds.
• Start with the coarsest waste to promote aeration from the bottom.
• Spread the compost activator on each new 10cm layer of waste.
• Maintain a constant level of moisture: the compost should be damp but not dripping when pressed by hand.
• Regularly turn the new waste with a compost aerator (or a fork) to aerate the compost.
• The composting duration varies from 2 to 3 months in summer to 4 to 6 months in winter. Mature compost has a dark brown colour and a pleasant odour and can be used as organic amendment at a rate of 1m³ per 100m².
