'Two Color Weeping' is a variety of common beech that stands out for its compact weeping habit and its bicolored leaves edged in pink. It forms a small tree that does not exceed 2 to 3 metres in all directions. Easy to grow and cold-resistant, it is ideal for small gardens, planted alone on a lawn. With its compact size, remarkable silhouette, and decorative foliage, this recent cultivar of beech is full of charm!
Fagus sylvatica is an imposing tree with a spreading habit belonging to the family of fagaceae. The genus Fagus includes ten species of deciduous trees growing in temperate regions of the northern hemisphere. Native to central Europe to the Caucasus, the common beech is one of the most present species in European forests. Today, there are numerous varieties, some more recent than others, of beech, grown for their habit or their decorative foliage, or even both, as is the case with the variety 'Two Color Weeping'.
It has a weeping habit with its cascading branches. Compact and columnar, it does not exceed 2 to 3 metres in all directions. Its alternate leaves have wavy edges and only appear in spring, at the same time as its inconspicuous greenish flowers. Its foliage is remarkable: bronze-green with pink margins. In autumn, it turns yellowish-brown. The marcescent leaves dry out while remaining on the tree until the following spring when new leaves emerge. Mature specimens bear brown fruits called beech nuts.
Very hardy and easy to grow, Fagus sylvatica 'Two Color Weeping' will make a sensation in a small garden, attracting attention. Plant it alone on a lawn. Its habit and foliage will undoubtedly catch the eye of your visitors. Plant a few ground cover perennials at its base, such as colourful heucheras like 'Berry Smoothie' or 'Miracle'. You can also integrate it into a low shrub border to bring colour and height.

Botanical data
Fagus sylvatica 'Two Color Weeping' appreciates partial shade and sunlight. It tolerates shade fairly well, although its colours are less intense in shady areas. The soil should be moist and well-drained. It hates stagnant moisture and summer drought. In late winter, when the tree is dormant, remove awkward or tangled branches to maintain a nice habit. Be vigilant against attacks from aphids and scale insects as well as mildew. This is an easy-to-care-for tree that withstands cold weather well.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
