This robust garden tool, equipped with a wide 5-tine forged steel head and a foot support area, loosens and aerates the soil without turning it over while preserving its structure and the living organisms that make it so rich. Efficient, ergonomic and environmentally friendly, it is essential for gardeners who want to engage in an organic and sustainable gardening approach!

The traditional forged Biofork with 5 tines by De Pypere is a sturdy and ergonomic tool that loosens and aerates the soil without turning it over, in order to preserve its physical structure and avoid disturbing the rich ecosystem it contains. Thanks to its wide head, this garden tool can be used on larger surfaces. It has been designed to provide great comfort during use, allowing the gardener to work standing up while minimising effort. It is also suitable for heavy, clayey, and compact soils.

The classic biofork is a complementary tool to the spade, designed to aerate, loosen, and crumble the soil deeply in small areas. It is much better suited than the spade for working with clayey or heavy and compact soils. The traditional 5-tine Biofork by De Pypere is a type of fork with a very wide head equipped with 5 tines, a double crossbar with a foot support area, and two long wooden handles that can be replaced when worn out. This type of cultivator loosens the soil to a depth of about 20 cm, simply by penetrating it with its robust and sharp tines. Unlike the spade or the tiller, this garden tool does not mix the different layers of soil, does not disturb the microbial life, and does not cut through earthworms, which are essential for soil health and fertility. The top layer of soil is rich in humus composed of decomposing plant matter, which is highly nutritious for plants. Invertebrates, insects, bacteria, and fungi that are involved in this process require oxygen, and they suffocate when the soil is turned over, while the deeper, poorer layer ends up on the surface. The biofork can be used to prepare the soil before sowing or planting. Thanks to its 130 cm handles, you can work with a straight back, minimising the strain on the back muscles, even during intensive use, and reducing the risk of soreness or other pains.

Using it requires a little practice:

  • Push it into the soil by sliding your foot along the crossbar of the head
  • Then pull it towards you by lowering the handles (The curvature of the tines lifts the clod of soil by simply pulling the handles towards oneself using a lever effect).
  • Make a small alternating lifting movement on each side.
