A selection of large Crape Myrtles, reaching or exceeding a height of 3m (10ft). Crape Myrtles, in Latin Lagerstroemia indica, are deciduous bushes with exotic summer flowering, ranging from red to white, pink, and mauve, also appreciated for their decorative bark. They can be trained via their stems or their trunk cleared to enjoy their colourful bark. The most vigorous varieties form small trees, reaching a height of 7-8m (23-26ft). Among the tallest, we can mention the hardy selections from the Desmartis nursery in Dordogne ('Grand Cru', 'Bergerac', 'Jacqueline Desmartis') or the botanical species Lagerstroemia indica Violacea. Lagerstroemia is rather easy to grow in full sun, in rich, not too dry soil. Pruning should be done in March, and it is not necessary to hesitate in cutting back severely. Hardy down to -15°C (5°F) once mature, these bushes are also interesting for their foliage, which takes on flamboyant colours in autumn. All Crape Myrtles can easily be shaped by pruning to form a bush or a small tree on a single trunk, or several well-cleared trunks. Discover also our selection of varieties adapted to pot cultivation and small gardens.
