Manila or Manila Hemp is a fibre produced from the foliar sheaths of Abaca, known scientifically as Musa textilis, a banana plant that takes its name from the city of Manila, the capital of the Philippines, where it has been cultivated for a long time. Manila is characterized by its lightness, strength, and superior durability compared to other natural fibres. Its colour is a very light grey-brown. Used for centuries, especially for making ropes, Manila Hemp fibre has a soft and pleasant touch and is unsinkable. It is used for interior decoration, but especially outdoors, in various fields such as maritime due to its resistance to seawater, equestrianism, or even gymnastics.

Manila Hemp rope naturally degrades over time when used outdoors, leaving no residues in the environment: it is compostable and environmentally friendly. Highly resistant to heat, breakage, and abrasion, Manila Hemp rope is also difficult to ignite. Very pliable, this rope is easily knotted and its high coefficient of friction means that its knots do not slip.

Perfect for creating a staircase railing, it can also serve as a knotted rope, be used to make a rope ladder, or be used to suspend a swing, for example. Outdoors and exposed to the elements, it will be necessary to ensure its strength, which may decrease over the years.
