This planting material creates a physical barrier that isolates the garden soil from the essential ericaceous soil for the success of bushes such as camellias, azaleas, or other rhododendrons. It is available in the form of a 1.50 m (5ft) square, an ideal size to line the planting hole of a bush.

This rot-proof planting material has been designed to effectively isolate the garden soil from a completely different growing medium, such as ericaceous soil. It is easily installed, lining the bottom and sides of the planting hole, creating a favourable environment for the cultivation of acid-loving plants and bushes, including camellias, azaleas, or other rhododendrons...Available in 1.50 m (5ft) square, it is perfectly suited for individual planting pits for a specimen.

This grey geotextile felt is made of non-woven polyester (thermally bonded polyester fibres) with a density of 100g/m². It is permeable to water, but rot-proof and highly resistant: it can remain in the soil for many years without damage. Its texture is dense enough to prevent punctures and it prevents the garden soil (which can be alkaline) from mixing with the ericaceous soil or the very acidic organic matter it contains. Isolated from the rest of the soil, the plant's root ball benefits from a favourable environment for its growth as well as the ambient moisture of the bed. The felt also isolates it from the roots of neighbouring plants, which can sometimes be invasive. However, keep in mind that if you continuously water your heathland soil shrubs with alkaline water, it will lose its acidity in the medium term. Finally, avoid using pure peat in the garden: it dries out quickly in summer and provides very few nutrients to the plants and is not sustainable.

Detailed features

Directions for use Install this felt in the planting hole of your bush, which must be wide and deep enough. It must line the entire bottom and wall, and slightly overflow onto the surface of the garden soil. Fill the pit with ericaceous soil and compost. Plant your bush and then water it. You can cover the protruding felt edge with flat stones, gravel mulch, slate or pumice...However, keep in mind that if you continuously water your bush with alkaline water, it will lose its acidity in the medium and long term. Use rainwater or low-mineralised spring water if possible. You can also use this felt to limit the expansion of bamboo rhizomes which are not too running, or to contain the wandering roots of certain plants.
