Description
The Dahlia Gardenetta® Lavender is an exceptional variety from the Gardenetta® series, renowned for its large double flowers that combine elegance and robustness. Its broad, flat, pure white petals with a delicate lavender halo at the tips surround a vibrant yellow centre and a ruffled collar that adds a unique charm to this refined flowering. With its superior performance and remarkable resistance to powdery mildew, this plant stands out as an ideal choice for borders, the front of flowerbeds, and flower pots.
Belonging to the Asteraceae family, Dahlia originate from the high plateaux of Mexico, where they have thrived for centuries before being widely hybridised by horticulturists. The Dahlia Gardenetta Lavender, like other varieties in this series, has been selected for its large flowers, robustness, and compact habit. This variety will reach a height of 30 to 45 cm and a spread of 25 to 30 cm, forming a well-branched clump of dark green foliageproviding a perfect setting for its bright flowers. It has an upright and compact habit, requiring no staking. The flower heads take on the appearance of round, double corollas formed of numerous ligulate florets. The highly branched stems are sturdy, and the opposite leaves are divided into 3 or 5 very denticulate lobes. The leaves and stems are dark green with greyish reflections. Flowering begins in July and continues until October, bringing touches of light and colour to the garden throughout the growing season.
For prolonged flowering, it is recommended to regularly remove faded flowers, which will stimulate the production of new blooms. This Dahlia thrives in sunny positions and in rich, moist, and well-drained soil. It requires minimal maintenance, making it a particularly suitable variety for gardeners of all levels.
The Dahlia Gardenetta Lavender harmonises perfectly with light and graceful perennials and annuals such as coneflowers, Gaura lindheimeri, Cosmos, or Verbena bonariensis, which provide subtle contrasts in form and texture. For a more structured effect, consider pairing it with grasses such as Pennisetum villosum or Stipa tenuissima, which will add movement and softness to the display. With its elegant flowers and robustness, the Dahlia Gardenetta Lavender is a versatile and decorative variety, ideal for enhancing flowerbeds and beautifying terraces throughout the growing season.
Note: Please be aware that our plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once the risk of frost has completely passed.

Planting and care
The Dahlia Gardenetta Lavender is easy to grow in all regions. For abundant flowering, it is good to follow a few simple rules: plant it in full sun after the last frosts in rich, cool, and well-drained soil. However, avoid stagnant moisture that would encourage root rot. Do not hesitate to amend the soil with compost and sand if needed. Work the soil deeply and enrich it, for example, with crushed horn or dried blood. On completion of planting, water abundantly once and then repeat this watering regularly for the first 6 weeks to help with rooting.
Dahlia are sensitive to cold and need to be overwintered. In November, the first frosts cause the foliage to blacken, which is the time to lift them from the ground. Dig up the tubercles carefully, remove as much soil as possible, let the foliage dry so that the tubercles can replenish their reserves, then cut the stems back to 10 cm. Spread your bulbs in a crate on newspaper. Store them in a frost-free, dry, cool, and dark place, such as a frost-free garage or attic. In southern coastal regions experiencing only a few frosty days a year, it is possible to leave them in place. In this case, simply cover the soil with a layer of leaves or straw as protection.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
