Friends for nearly 2 years, in the 3rd year, it started to thrive and tiller vigorously and has been flourishing ever since. (It is situated facing south, sheltered from cold winds).

Description

Agapanthus 'Ice Lolly' blooms from July to August. It offers beautiful globular umbels with a diameter of 15cm. The flowers, trumpet-shaped, are yellow when in bud, white when fully open. Cut and placed in a vase, they will bring freshness to your home. The foliage of the Agapanthus is evergreen in mild climates. It remains decorative all year round.

Not very hardy (up to -5°C (23°F)), plant Agapanthus in a large pot placed on a sunny terrace for abundant flowering. In the ground, prefer a warm exposure in a border, in a perennial flower bed, or in a mass planting. It can even be grown on its own. It is a plant that thrives by the seaside, in an English cottage, and even in a city garden.

At maturity, the 'Ice Lolly' Agapanthus can reach a height of 80m (2ft 6in) and a width of 40cm (16in). This perennial is native to South Africa.

Planting and care

The 'Ice Lolly' Agapanthus is grown in full sun in a warm, sheltered, south-facing location. It is resistant to drought. Plant it in a soil that is rich and moist, but above all, very well-drained in winter. Water Agapanthus regularly during the growth period (twice a week). However, avoid watering them while the plant is dormant. In winter, Agapanthus is sensitive to excessive moisture and does not like waterlogged soil. That is why it is recommended to mulch the base of the plants with a layer of dead leaves, about 20cm (8in) thick, and cover them with a mesh to prevent wind damage. Snow is also a good protection against excessive moisture and cold. If grown in a pot, bring the plant indoors for protection. When planting, place it at a depth of 30cm (12in) in a pot with leaf compost, as the roots are fleshy. Once established in the ground, do not disturb Agapanthus. Remove faded leaves in autumn. Cut back the flower stems so that the plant does not exhaust itself producing seeds.
