2 pots planted in the spring next to magnificent agapanthus already in place, but the newcomers have reduced foliage and no flowers. A bit disappointed, I have no explanation...

Description

Agapanthus Graphite® White is part of a new series of hybrid Agapanthus selected for their excellent cold resistance, their floribundity, but also for their curiously dark floral stemsthat form a beautiful contrast with the tuft of light and vibrant green leaves. Hardy down to -15°C, with deciduous foliage, this perennial bears large spherical inflorescences in early summer, filled with bell-shaped white flowers, slightly touched with purple on the reverse. This very graphic plant is suitable for cultivation in open ground in many regions, it will bring a beautiful touch of exoticism to sunny borders as well as to flower pots.

Agapanthus Graphite® White ('Turk3') is a recently created horticultural hybrid in France by Ernest Turc and published by Sapho®. Of hybrid origin, it likely has the genes of Agapanthus campanulatus, native to South Africa but particularly hardy. 'Graphite White' is a deciduous plant that develops in spring, from a stump with fleshy rhizomes. It forms a dense tuft of linear, ribbon-like, light green foliage, with a minimum diameter of 50 to 60cm (20 to 24in), widening over time. Each leaf can reach 45cm (18in) in length and 1.5cm (1in) in width. The flowering takes place in summer, usually in June-July. Strong stems 80cm (32in) to 1m (3ft) tall emerge from the tuft of leaves. They have an almost blackish dark grey shade, as dark as graphite. They bear at their ends delicate spherical umbels 10 to 15cm (4 to 6in) in diameter. Each umbel is composed of about thirty small bell-shaped flowers carried by long peduncles. The foliage yellows and then disappears in autumn.

The 'Graphite White' Agapanthus is sumptuous in the garden with its large white flowers and dark stems that stand out from a well-filled tuft. The combination will give a truly elegant touch to your borders, along with the variety 'Graphite Blue', its blue-flowered counterpart. Very hardy, it withstands temperatures around -12/-15°C without weakening, which is why it can be planted, in open ground, almost anywhere. In very cold regions, it will be given a protected and south-facing location, and a thick mulch will be applied at its base. Whether in borders, edging, large rockeries, pots or containers, Agapanthus is suitable for a wide range of uses. It is particularly adapted to coastal climates.

We deliver them as 2/3-eye stumps. Over time, they will form increasingly strong tufts.

Planting and care

Plant Graphite® White Agapanthus by covering them with at least 10cm (4in) of good soil so they can withstand the cold in most of our regions. It is essential to plant them in spring and mulch them in winter. For container cultivation, use 5 young plants for a 24cm (9in) pot and protect your pots in winter. They prefer a rich and moist, yet well-drained soil. They are hungry plants that appreciate the addition of compost and fertilizer. Water them regularly during the growth period (twice a week). However, avoid watering them afterwards. They dislike excess moisture in winter, but require a moist soil to flower well in summer.
