Description

The Angelonia angustifolia Angelface Pink is a new particularly ornamental selection of this wonderful annual plant. It stands out with its large and pink flowers, as well as with increased vigor. It offers endless flowering from May to October, in long upright clusters that form a beautiful and decorative clump. Angelonia is perfect in pots, flower boxes, hanging baskets, or even in sunny borders with well-drained soil. It withstands heat and relative drought well and requires little maintenance.

The Angelonia angustifolia is a plant of the scrophulariaceae family, just like snapdragons. It is native to Mexico, Central America, and tropical South America. Don't be fooled by the apparent delicacy of this plant, which hides great robustness and can tolerate relative drought in the ground. This tender plant, perennial in its native lands, has given rise to numerous cultivars, which all have good heat tolerance and seem unattractive to insects and diseases. 'Angelface Pink' is a new variety that grows in a clump as tall as it is wide, about 45-50cm (18-20in) in all directions when in bloom. The plant produces continuous floral stems from May to October, which are flexible and bear numerous small labiate flowers with two lips, coloured with a slightly purplish pink, lightened by a white throat speckled with red. They resemble both small orchids and snapdragon flowers. The flowers bloom among the foliage, which is composed of small, long, and narrow aromatic leaves, arranged alternately on the stems. In mild climate regions, it can self-seed in light soil.

The Angelonia Angelface Pink is an essential terrace plant, easy to pair with other plants, and ideal for quickly creating a summer decor. This plant is resistant to heat and rain. It is a good choice for flower beds, flower boxes, and rock gardens. It is wonderful in large floral compositions, paired with petunias or dark-leaved ipomeas, trailing geraniums, diascas, trailing verbenas, and many other species adapted to full sun. It also produces long-lasting cut flowers.

Upon receipt, repot and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors once the risk of frost is definitively eliminated.

Planting and care

Plant your Angelonia in a sunny or partially shady location. They require a light, well-draining and humus-rich soil and appreciate fertilization. They tolerate fairly dry soil if planted in the ground (although flowering will be halted if the soil becomes too dry). You can grow your Angelonia in pots or in the ground. When grown in pots, they should be regularly watered. Remove faded flowers regularly to encourage the development of new flowers.

Please note that our plug plant young plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, repot and store them in a sheltered place (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before placing them outdoors once the risk of frost has definitively passed.
