Geranium sylvaticum, also known as the wood geranium, is part of the large tribe of perennial geraniums favoured by many gardeners. It is a sturdy plant of moist woodlands that we know in our gardens through beautiful varieties like 'Mayflower' or 'Birch Lilac', which bloom abundantly in spring with very bright blue tones. Resembling the meadow cranesbill, the wood geranium stands out with its slightly less finely cut foliage. Ideal in cool and shaded areas of a natural garden, it is not afraid of the harsh winter cold and can tolerate heavy and damp soil. It self-seeds spontaneously and over time forms magnificent ground cover colonies, spectacular in the shade. This simple yet grand plant will find its place in all gardens. Combine it with the golden foliage of Dicentra 'White Gold', plus Carex elata 'Aurea' or Carex oshimensis 'Evergold' - the yellow-blue contrast is superb!
