The Geranium endressii, or Endress geranium, is a perennial ground cover that stands out both for its vigour and the delicacy of its flowering. The wild species, native to the Pyrenees, offers very tender pink flowers. This rhizomatous and trailing perennial has given rise to magnificent varieties whose flowering offers a beautiful palette of colours: blue in 'Johnson's Blue' for example, they are baby pink in 'Wargrave Pink', or dark purple pink in 'Beholder's Eye'. They bloom on a thick carpet of palmate leaves, 40 to 50 cm (16 to 20in) high, throughout the summer if the soil remains moist. The Endress geranium will undoubtedly thrive in all gardens, left to the whims of nature without maintenance. If it likes it, it can become invasive, but in return, this exuberant plant will effectively keep weeds at bay. It tolerates both sun and shade, is not afraid of the roots of other plants and bushes, covers difficult slopes, and grows in all types of soil, even limestone and/or clay. Prune it after summer flowering; it will be even more floriferous in autumn. Its only enemy is drought. We like to pair it with perennials with a natural appearance, such as columbines, astrantias, and knotweeds, which are charming allies. Discover it in all its forms!
