Beautiful young plants always in flower, lovely colour, satisfied with the result. I look forward to seeing them spreading more next year.

Description

The Geranium sylvaticum 'Ice Blue' or wood cranesbill forms in spring bushes of blue flowers tinged with white in the center, perched at 60cm (24in) in height. The flower measures about 2 cm (1in) in diameter.

This Geranium has an abundant flowering in spring from May to June. Its large deciduous leaves are deeply divided.

Perennial and vigorous, this variety grows in shade, it likes coolness and self-seeds spontaneously in humus-rich soils, forming magnificent colonies, spectacular in the undergrowth in spring.

Magnificent in the undergrowth, associate it with golden foliage: Millium effusum 'Aureum', Carex elata 'Aurea', Carex oshimensis 'Evergold', the yellow-blue contrast is superb.

Planting and care

Place the Geranium sylvaticum 'Ice Blue' in full sun or partial shade in a preferably moist but well-draining soil. Work the soil in a 20 cm (8in) cube, crumble the soil thoroughly and place a base amendment such as dried blood or dehydrated horn at the bottom of the planting hole. Position your plant, freed from its pot, by covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil, backfill and water generously to eliminate air pockets. In dry weather, it is necessary to water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root establishment.
