Description

Philodendron grazielae is a rare houseplant with charming, small, shiny, heart-shaped leaves. Enthusiasts of tropical greenery will welcome it in Scandinavian, contemporary, or jungle styles to create a refined atmosphere. This compact and easy to care for philodendron is the ideal choice to liven up a corner of the living room or adorn a shelf. Ensure it receives soft, indirect light, and it will quickly become one of your favourite plants!

Philodendron grazielae is a species native to the tropical forests of Peru and Brazil. This small climbing plant was named in honour of the Brazilian botanist Graziela Barroso, who collected the original specimen in the 1960s. It belongs to the Araceae family. It is slow-growing, reaching a height of around 90 cm and a spread of 60 cm indoors, depending on pot size and growing conditions. Its climbing habit requires a stake or support for training. Its thick, vibrant green leaves measure between 4 and 11 cm. Their small, heart-shaped, glossy appearance is truly unique. Although it rarely flowers indoors, very mature plants may produce discreet flowers. In the wild, Philodendron grazielae grows in warm, humid environments, nestled beneath the tree canopy, which explains its need for indirect light and humidity. Like other Philodendrons, it is mildly toxic to humans and animals if ingested, so keep it out of reach of children and pets.

To create a little "jungle" corner, pair Philodendron grazielae with Monstera adansonii and Scindapsus pictus, which share its care requirements. With its climbing habit, this small philodendron is perfect for dressing a high shelf, wall, or wooden stake; it will add dynamism and vertical interest to your décor.

With its natural charm, the Philodendron grazielae is perfectly suited for elegant interior decoration. It finds its place in a tropical conservatory, on a wooden shelf in Scandinavian style, or even in a minimalist space where its shiny leaves catch everyone's eye. Grow it in a white ceramic pot for a contemporary effect, or in a wicker basket for a bohemian and natural touch. Avoid direct sunlight which can scorch its leaves. Maintenance and care

Water when the surface of the soil is dry, without overdoing it. Opt for bottom watering to thoroughly moisten the root ball.

Potting advice, substrates and fertilisers

Repot preferably in spring, every 2 to 3 years, or when the roots start to outgrow the pot. Use a slightly larger container.
Use a light mix with good drainage, such as houseplant compost mixed with clay pebbles or perlite.
Use a liquid fertiliser for green plants (NPK 10-10-10) every fortnight in spring and summer, and once a month in autumn and winter.

Houseplant care

Clean its leaves regularly to keep them shiny and remove dust, as this improves their photosynthesis.
No specific pruning required, but remove damaged leaves to promote healthy growth.

Disease and pest advice

For mealybugs, use a cotton pad soaked in 70° alcohol to remove them manually. Be sure to monitor the moisture and drainage of the soil carefully.
