Description

Philodendron 'Sun Red' is a colour-changing variety, offering a renewed display throughout the year. With a compact and upright habit, this houseplant requires no staking and takes up little space, making it perfect for a bedroom or a bright small living room, or as part of a collection.

Belonging to the Araceae family, Philodendron 'Sun Red' is a hybrid cultivar with no definite parentage, though likely descended from a species native to the humid forests of Central and South America. At maturity, it reaches a height of 60 cm and a spread of 50 cm. This philodendron has moderate growth and an upright habit. Its elongated, lanceolate leaves unfurl in fiery orange or red for several weeks before turning to glossy green. Flowering consists of the discreet inflorescences typical of Araceae and is rare indoors. Fairly adaptable to growing conditions, it prefers bright but indirect light and moderate to high humidity, around 50 to 70%.

The exotic appearance of Philodendron 'Sun Red' blends seamlessly with contemporary or urban jungle styles. Consider pairing it with plants of similar needs, such as other members of the Araceae family like Alocasia zebrina.
