Description

We're offering you a Collection of three Lamium maculatum at a low price to enhance shady areas of the garden without breaking the bank. It brings together three different varieties with white, light pink, or deep pink flowers depending on the plant. These perennials with beautifully maculated foliage in silver-white, often evergreen in winter, produce charming 20 cm-tall ground cover patches that spread without aggression. They require no maintenance (unless the foliage has dried out) and are perfect at the base of a bushy shrub. Plant them in cool, humus-bearing, even limestone soil.

The collection consists of:

- x 1 Lamium maculatum 'White Nancy': variety with white flowers, dark green foliage widely maculated with white in the centre.

- x 1 Lamium maculatum ‘Shell Pink’: variety with light pink flowers, green leaves marked with a silver band on either side of the central vein.

- x 1 Lamium maculatum 'Red Nancy': variety with deep pink flowers, silver-grey leaves bordered with greyish green.

Dead Nettles should be planted in early spring or early autumn, in a semi-shaded or shaded position, for example at the base of shrubs or trees, in a cool and shaded rockery, against a north or east-facing wall... They thrive in soil that doesn't dry out too much in summer, but that is not waterlogged. Their reasonable spread, through stems that root upon contact with the ground, is entirely manageable. Each plant forms a carpet about 20 cm tall with a maximum spread of 100 cm. Plant 6 plants per m² to cover the ground in 2-3 years, or 3 plants per m² for a result after 4-5 years of cultivation. Remove weeds regularly in the early stages to help your young plants establish and water during very dry weather.

This collection of Spotted Dead nettles can also be planted at the front of borders, in ribbon-like fashion or in small touches, in front of Heucheras or Hardy Geraniums. It goes well with shade-loving companions such as Hepaticas and Hostas, Arum maculatum, Epimedium rubrum... In a cool and moist rockery, you can plant the Dead Nettles from this collection among other ground-covering perennials, for example some Ajuga reptans 'Atropurpurea'.

Planting and care

Lamium maculatum should be planted in spring or autumn, or even all year round, in slightly moist soil. They prefer shaded or semi-shaded locations, and exposing them to scorching sun should be avoided. They like rich and humus-bearing, moist but not waterlogged soil.

Its rhizomatous stump is not invasive, as it is its stems that colonize the space. You can therefore prune them if you wish to limit their growth.

An occasional little pruning is necessary if some leaves have dried up.

Warning: gastropods are fond of the pretty leaves of the dead-nettle, especially in spring. Make sure to protect them, especially when the plants are young and not fully developed.
