Description

Philodendron 'Prince of Orange' is sought-after among enthusiasts for its vividly coloured foliage and easy care. Its leaves emerge in coppery orange tones, then gradually turn to lime green. Adorned with a beautiful gradient of colours, the plant resembles a magnificent polychrome bouquet. This variety makes a striking statement in contemporary or bohemian interiors, adding colour and sophistication. To preserve the intensity of its colours, place it in a room with bright, indirect light and a not-too-dry atmosphere.

Belonging to the Araceae familyPhilodendron 'Prince of Orange' is a horticultural hybrid obtained through cross-breeding from Philodendron x erubescens. This perennial has an upright, bushy habit, with leaves emerging almost straight from the centre before spreading out. At maturity, it reaches a height of 60 to 75 cm with a similar spread. Its broad, glossy leaves grow up to 30 cm long. They emerge in bright orange, transition to golden bronze, then mature to light green, offering a spectacular colour gradient. Indoor flowering is rare and insignificant, appearing as discreet spathes. This plant is toxic if ingested due to the presence of calcium oxalate.

With its coppery hues and large glossy leaves, Philodendron 'Prince of Orange' is a botanical treasure, perfect for brightening up a sunny living room, bedroom, or even a partially shaded corner of a conservatory. Pair it with other Araceae like the trailing Scindapsus pictus or a Monstera deliciosa with giant leaves.

Maintenance and care

Water when the top of the compost is dry. Use non-calcareous water at room temperature. In winter, reduce watering frequency. Mist frequently during the heating season.

Potting advice, substrates and fertilisers

Repot every 2 to 3 years, preferably in spring. Use a slightly larger pot.
Use a well-draining, rich and aerated compost. A mix of houseplant compost, coconut coir and perlite, with clay pebbles at the bottom for drainage.
Apply a liquid fertiliser for green plants (NPK 10-10-10) twice a month in spring and summer. Reduce feeding in autumn and stop completely in winter.

Houseplant care

Wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and promote photosynthesis.
An easy-care plant that requires just a little attention. Pruning is rarely needed. Simply trim yellowed or damaged leaves at their base with clean scissors to encourage new shoots.
