Absolutely stunning: more burgundy than in the photo and with more contrast in the lower petals, almost white-pink in mine. 2 flowers on very tall and upright stems, without leaves. It made quite an impression!!!

Description

Hippeastrum 'Bogota', also known as Amaryllis, is an indoor bulb with spectacular flowering from December to March.

Its star-shaped flowers feature very narrow, 10 cm long petals. The flowers are salmon pink and red. At the heart of the flower are long stamens that sometimes extend beyond the petals. Four to six flowers perch atop sturdy stems.

Hippeastrum Bogota develops its foliage after flowering. This indoor bulb can reach up to 50 cm. Grow it in a pot. You can also place it against a well-exposed wall in your garden, sheltered from cold winds, bearing in mind that amaryllis cannot tolerate frost. The flowers can be cut for bouquets.

Planting and care

Amaryllis Bogota thrives in sun or partial shade in any moist soil. Indoors, place it in bright light. For pot cultivation, allow 2 cm around the bulb and use a heavy pot to prevent it from toppling under the weight of the flower, which tends to lean towards the sun. Use a light, well-drained, neutral or slightly acidic compost. In pots, leave half of the bulb above the soil to prevent the neck from getting wet and rotting. Additionally, this provides more space for the soil. Plant your amaryllis from October to January, depending on the desired flowering period, keeping in mind that it takes 6 weeks from planting to flowering. After flowering, cut the flowers while allowing the foliage to grow. At the end of summer, let the soil dry out and cut the dry leaves. 6 weeks later, repot the bulb in fresh compost.
