Lycoris, also known as spider lilies or Japanese lilies, fascinate with their spectacular flowering at the end of the season. The Lycoris radiata, the most well-known, displays brightly red flowers with undulate petals, appearing to float above slender stems. The Lycoris aurea is distinguished by its large golden flowers, while Lycoris squamigera, with its pale pink hues, brightens up borders. The rarer Lycoris albiflora showcases immaculately white flowers.
Native to Asia, these bulbous plants from the Amaryllidaceae family offer a spectacular autumnal flowering. Their leaves appear after the flowers, in autumn and winter, and disappear in spring.
These tender plants, which rest in summer, are well-suited to a Mediterranean climate. Hardy down to -10°C depending on the variety, they are suitable for exotic gardens, borders, or even container gardening. They are grown like Nerines.
