The Amaryllidaceae form a vast family of bulbs with very beautiful flower-shaped calyxes. Crinums, Amarcrinums, Ismenes and Amaryllis belladonna or Vallota have tall floral stems 60 to 80 cm (24 to 32in) and white or pink flowers, depending on the varieties. The Sprekelias, which are smaller, have very beautiful bright red flowers.
