Iris ‘Conspiration’ is an intriguing variety of tall bearded iris with enigmatic charm. It stands out for its flowers with white-mauve petals and satin aubergine-coloured sepals. The yellow-orange beards with light lavender tips add a refined touch to this ruffled and well-proportioned ensemble. Cold and drought-resistant once established, it is easily grown in full sun, in well-drained soil.
German Iris ‘Conspiration’ is a cultivar of Tall Bearded Iris belonging to the Iridaceae family. It was developed by Richard Cayeux and introduced in 2023. This cultivar is distinguished by its moderately large and ruffled flowers, with white-lavender petals broadly infused with light chartreuse green, and nearly horizontal sepals of satin aubergine colour with a fine amethyst edge. The beards are yellow-orange with light lavender tips. The plant has an upright and branching habit, reaching about 75 cm in height in the ground. Its growth is vigorous, forming dense clumps thanks to its fleshy rhizomes that spread horizontally. In pots, the dimensions may be slightly reduced, but the plant retains its elegant appearance. The foliage consists of sword-shaped, blue-green, deciduous leaves measuring up to 60 cm long. The flowering stems are sturdy, cylindrical, and slightly branching. The root system of fleshy rhizomes ensures both propagation and storage of reserves. It flowers early to mid-season, typically in May.
In a garden designed as a pictorial composition, Iris ‘Conspiration’ plays the role of a stroke of mystery, subtly placed in a spring scene. Its palette of acid greens, aubergine, and lavender calls for contrasting and nuanced companions: Euphorbias with golden foliage, blue Camassias, or the upright and dark ‘Caradonna’ sage. It also makes a sophisticated container where the morning light makes its satin reflections shimmer. The vegetable garden can have a few clumps or borders of irises grown for cut flowers.
