Description

This collection of small, fragrant Phlox brings together three excellent varieties of Phlox divaricata: 'Chattahoochee', 'White Perfume', and 'Clouds of Perfume'. Offering notable differences in their floral shades, these varieties share common characteristics such as deciduous foliage and an average height of 20 to 30 cm. They all bloom from April to June, allowing for a beautiful harmony of colours and scents in the garden. The ideal soil for these small perennials should be well-drained and slightly acidic to neutral. They prefer an exposure ranging from partial shade to full sun and can tolerate temperatures as low as -15 °C.

The collection consists of:

1x Phlox divaricata Chattahoochee: This variety stands out for its lavender-blue flowers, which are slightly smaller but more numerous than those of other varieties.

1x Phlox 'White Perfume': Its pure white flowers stand out particularly in the evening.

1x 'Clouds of Perfume': Remarkable for its mauve flowers and intoxicating fragrance that fills the surrounding air.

For optimal effect, it is recommended to plant the Phlox divaricata 'White Perfume', the lightest one, at the front of the bed to highlight its flowers. The 'Chattahoochee' variety, with its shades of lavender-blue, will be magnificent in the middle of the bed, while 'Clouds of Perfume', due to its powerful fragrance, is ideal for highly-frequented areas where it can be fully appreciated. Plan for 9 to 11 plants per square metre and maintain a distance of 25 to 30 cm between plants.

The Phlox divaricata in this collection pair perfectly with other perennial plants such as Hosta for a nice foliage contrast, Ferns for a wild touch. Small Periwinkles make a good complement for use as ground cover. All these plants share similar needs in terms of sunlight, soil type, and moisture, creating a cohesive and harmonious ensemble.
