A medley pink-flowered Weigelas. These deciduous bushes, easy to grow, light up the garden with their pink blooms in late spring. Among the 'pink' varieties we find true hedge bushes such as Weigela florida Rosea, pale pink with dark pink buds, which can reach a height of 2.5 m (8ft), and the Dark Pink Weigela Stelzneri that reaches up to 1.80 m (6ft). There are also more compact pink weigelas, well-suited for small gardens and container cultivation: 'Princess Ayla', a very pretty bright pink, or the astonishing Carnival Hybrid Weigela whose small trumpets range from white to deep purple through various shades of pink. In these pink-flowered bushes, the fantasy is also expressed in the foliage, which can be variegated (Weigela Kosteriana Variegata) or purple in the vigorous variety Alexandra, for example. Undemanding, Weigelas grow in any loose but not too dry soil, including limestone, in sunny or partially shaded areas. Adult size is reached in 5/6 years. They can be used as solitary plants, in free hedges, in flowerbeds, or in containers for dwarf varieties. To accompany them, think of lilacs, roses, deutzias and kolkwitzias.
