Description

The Single Early Tulip 'Paradiso' is a charming variety distinguished by its vibrant and early flowering. With its well-formed bright red flowers carried on sturdy stems approximately 35 cm tall, it ignites the signs of spring from the first days of March. Its upright and compact habit makes it an ideal candidate for neat borders, decorative pots, or spring flowerbed. It prefers light, well-drained soil and a sunny or lightly shaded exposure. To ensure beautiful, lasting flowering, it is recommended to avoid excess moisture in winter. Good performance in the garden and then in a vase.

The Tulip 'Paradiso' belongs to the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, it is currently classified in Division 1, known as the Single Early Group, whose main characteristic is to flower very early in the season. It reaches 30 to 35 cm in height when in flower. Its sturdy stems rise well above the lanceolate foliage in the form of wide flowers in a narrow cup shape, measuring about 6 cm wide and formed of six symmetrical tepals. Its flowering begins as early as March or early April, marking the start of the tulip season. Single early tulips offer a beautiful diversity of colours and reliable flowering ideal for both borders and cut flowers. Their exceptional performance in pots will enable you to enjoy their brilliance for longer, especially in early spring. To best enjoy their visual impact and prolong the pleasure of flowering indoors, it is wise to plan for a few extra bulbs for cut flowers as they hold up so well in a vase.

The tulip 'Paradiso' lends itself to structured, vibrant scenes when incorporated in small groups into a sea of blue forget-me-nots or white daisies, to emphasise the intensity of its colouring. In a pot on a patio, it will stand out if surrounded by miniature daffodils or grape hyacinths. For a more sophisticated  display, it will harmonise beautifully with the orange-hued Tulipa 'Princess Irene', the deep purple Tulipa 'Purple Prince', or the delicate Tulipa 'Apricot Beauty', in a subtly nuanced contrast.

Planting and care

Plant your single early Tulip Paradiso bulbs in autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15 cm, spacing them 10 cm apart. Planting should be done in ordinary, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly calcareous, loose, well-worked, and well-drained soil. Never add poorly decomposed manure or compost to the planting soil as this could cause the bulbs to rot. The tulip will grow well in soil that is cool to dry in summer. Place it in a good sunny position or in partial shade. Once flowering is over, it is best to remove the fruits to avoid exhausting the plant.
