Description

The late single Tulip 'Blushing Lady' presents a flower in a tapered cup shape, of rare elegance and beautifully adorned with yellow, pink, and orange tones. This variety flowers towards the end of the tulip season, in the month of May. Its stem, tall and sturdy, withstands inclement weather. In a vase, this variety is simply stunning!

The 'Blushing Lady' Tulip belongs to the Liliaceae family. Of horticultural origin, introduced in 1991 in the Netherlands, it is currently classified in Division 5 of the late single tulips, whose main characteristic is to flower late in the season. This 'Blushing Lady' variety will reach a height of 50 to 55 cm (20 to 22in) when in bloom. Perched on stems that withstand inclement weather, well above the broadly lanceolate leaves, the flowers are large and delicate, somewhat reminiscent of 'Fleur de lis' tulips. The petals are widely tinged with pink, salmon, and orange, with a well-defined yellow edge. Flowering takes place in May, or even at the beginning of June depending on the climate, making this variety useful in the garden to accompany the first summer blooms. The glaucous-coloured foliage turns yellow and then disappears some time after flowering. The bulb enters a dormant state.

Showcase this beautiful 'Blushing Lady' tulip in a nest of forget-me-nots and daisies. To conceal its absence in summer, consider planting its bulbs among perennials: heucheras, catmints, hardy geraniums, and other agastaches will be good companions. With a wealth of colours, sturdy and resistant flowers, usable both in flower beds and to enhance your bouquets, late single tulips are widely planted in gardens. These flowers are unparalleled in bringing the colours of spring to pots or sunny borders. Don't forget to consider the height and flowering period when designing your flower beds, as these parameters vary significantly from one cultivar to another. It is wise to plant a few more bulbs for cutting, as they make superb cut flowers that last a long time in a vase.

Planting and care

Plant tulip bulbs in autumn, from September to December, at a depth of 15 cm (6in), spacing them 10 cm (4in) apart. The planting should be done in ordinary soil, slightly acidic, neutral, or slightly alkaline, loose, well-worked, and well-drained. Never add manure or poorly decomposed compost to the planting soil, as this could cause the bulbs to rot. The Blushing Lady tulip will thrive in moist to dry soil. Plant it in a sunny or semi-shaded position. Once flowering is finished, it is preferable to remove the fruits to avoid exhausting the plant.
