Our range of drought and cold resistant plants for a worry-free, drought tolerant garden. All these plants can withstand summer drought and intense cold (down to -15°C and beyond). Perennials, bushes, trees, ornamental grasses, conifers, and climbers: a variety of hardy species that require minimal maintenance and adapt to all gardens.
For perennials, chooseNepetas, with their aromatic foliage and nectar-rich flowers in full sun. Periwinkles carpet dry woodlands, whileIris germanica, with its spectacular flowers, thrives in beds and on arid slopes.Sedum is the quintessential succulent for sunny rock gardens, whileStinking Hellebore is perfect for dry and shaded rock gardens.Perovskia, with its lavender-blue spikes, is a nearly indestructible plant from the steppes of Central Asia. Ornamental grasses, such as Stipa tenuifolia andPanicum, add lightness and movement to the garden.
To structure the space, there’s no shortage of shrubs: the spring spireas (Spiraea vanhouttei, Spiraea arguta) brighten hedges with their white flowers,Nandina enlivens winter with its red berries, and the common mock orange (Philadelphus coronarius) fills the air with fragrance in June.Sea buckthorns (Hippophae) withstand extreme conditions, as does Cotinus (smoke bush). Also very hardy,Photinia adapts almost anywhere.
For climbers, You can rely onwinter jasmine (Jasminum nudiflorum), which brightens winter with its yellow flowers even in dry soil. Virginia creeper Parthenocissus quinquefolia, with its vibrant autumn foliage, has naturalised everywhere. The romantic and indestructible Chinese wisteria unfurls its wonderful cascades of fragrant flowers in spring, gracing Flemish and Mediterranean gardens.
To add dimension to the garden, opt for hardy conifers like common junipers, Juniperus communis 'Repanda', a ground cover, or the cultivar 'Sentinel', which forms a narrow column. In the background, trees like holm oak and Austrian black pine, are indestructible and provide an evergreen structure to the garden.
Exceptional plants in their own way, to prioritize in a beautiful, easy-to-maintain, and highly resilient garden.
