Our range of nativars. "Nativar" comes from the fusion of the words "native" and "cultivar", and it refers to varieties resulting from the hybridization or selection of native plants. Like the red valerian Centranthus ruber or the field maple Acer campestre 'Carnival', these plants combine the interesting characteristics of cultivars, such as vibrant colors, extended flowering, or increased disease resistance, with the ecological benefits of native plants, such as adaptability to the local environment and usefulness for native wildlife. Unlike exotic plants, nativars maintain a close connection with their natural environment, which makes them particularly interesting in gardens that promote biodiversity and sustainability. These plants play an important role in supporting pollinators, such as bees and butterflies, and can better withstand local climatic conditions, thus reducing the need for water and maintenance. It is important to choose nativars adapted to the region where you are gardening, such as planting the common medlar Mespilus germanica in Alsace, the 'Hidcote' lavender in Provence, or the meadow buttercup (Ranunculus acris) in a clayey and humid Normandy meadow. By prioritizing these plants, gardeners contribute to the preservation of biodiversity and the creation of gardens that are both beautiful and environmentally responsible.
