The 3 young plants in 2-litre pots are vigorous and well-developed. They have clearly grown in the ground before being potted up just for delivery. I am very satisfied.

Description

Excellent shade-loving ground cover, Geranium macrorrhizum 'Spessart' is THE plant that every enthusiast should have in their garden due to its ease of cultivation in all regions, and the invaluable services it provides in suppressing weeds, both in shade and in full sun.

The creeping rhizomatous stump bears evergreen, villous and palmate leaves, strongly aromatic, of variable green, embellished with superb autumnal colourations in red or orange, which persist throughout the winter.

The flowers are white, with pale pink tinges. It grows very well in the shade at the base of trees or on slopes, and naturalises quickly. It is one of the few plants capable of competing with ivy in the undergrowth.

Planting and care

To install your Geranium macrorrhizum Spessart, work the ground to a depth of 20 cubic cm, crumbling the soil well and adding a base amendment such as dried blood or crushed horn at the bottom of the planting hole. Position your plant, removed from its pot, covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil, fill in and water thoroughly to eliminate air pockets. If planted in dry weather, it is necessary to water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate root establishment.
