Rosier à grandes fleurs Elégance Française Meithatie
Thanks to the individuals (for order preparation and shipping), the bare-root rose received appears to be healthy. Planted in the ground, I am now patiently waiting for it to take root... (or not?).

The 'Elegance Française' rose expresses in its perfectly formed large flower, a very chic pink colour, with a superb fragrance, all the beauty of French luxury. This bush, with vigorous and compact vegetation, blooms generously from late spring to the first frost. Its color, an almost fluorescent magenta pink, is perfectly highlighted by abundant dark green foliage that is resistant to diseases. A generous rose, easy to grow in all our regions. Shining in flowerbeds, its flowers are of course perfect in bouquets.
'Elegance Française'® 'Meithatie' is a modern bush rose hybrid tea obtained by Meilland in 2018. This excellent variety has won several awards in international competitions: Nagaoka Silver Medal 2017, 1st Prize Grouped Flowers SNHF 2020, 1st Prize in all regions and Perfume Award AGRS (American Garden Rose Selections) 2020, John Cecil Honor Award, Biltmore (USA) 2020. It is a bush with a rather upright habit, well branched, reaching an average height of 70cm (28in) and a spread of 50-60cm (20-24in) at maturity. Its growth is rapid and vigorous. It produces strong, thorny branches that bear well-furnished foliage composed of leaves with large dark green leaflets. Its flowering is recurrent between June and October, if care is taken to remove faded flowers. The flowers are large turbinate cups with a diameter of 10cm (4in), composed of 25 velvety petals of a rich, pure magenta pink. Their fragrance of Damask rose with fruity and sweet nuances is pronounced. They are mostly solitary, sometimes grouped in 3 to 10, carried at the end of long year shoots or on 2-year-old stems. When cut, the roses last a long time and make sumptuous scented bouquets.
This 'Elegance Française' rose, with its very 'haute couture' flowers, dresses up any flowerbed, even the most modest, and enhances any bouquet. The red roses truly shine in our very sunny regions, especially in semi-shade and against the light. The relentless southern light reveals, exalts and makes us love the violence of red, while pastel tones are magnified by the milkier skies of our northern regions. 'Elegance Française' is self-sufficient, it allows for the creation of a large rose flowerbed. It adapts to all soils that are not too dry and all climates, tolerating both rain and heat, which allows it to be welcomed without reservation from north to south, even at medium altitude. It harmoniously associates with pale pink roses 'Prince Jardinier', or white roses 'Fée des neiges'. Also consider beautiful plants such as the Royal Lily, perennial geraniums, 'Powis Castle' Artemisia, or bellflowers to accompany it.

Botanical data
Plant your 'Elegance Française' Rose in a sunny or lightly shaded location. Modern roses are tolerant, but do not appreciate an excess of limestone. They will adapt to any garden as long as the soil is well worked, not too heavy, and rich enough. To install your rose, work the soil by crumbling it well and place an amendment, such as dried blood or dehydrated horn, at the bottom of the planting hole. Water generously after planting to remove any air pockets. Water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate rooting.
Pruning modern perpetual roses is essential for flowering. It is done in three stages:
1. Maintenance pruning: regularly shorten the branches that have bloomed during the season. To promote the reblooming of perpetual roses, remove the faded flowers at the same time as their stem with 2 or 3 leaves.
2. Preparatory pruning in autumn: light pruning that anticipates the true spring pruning. It is not recommended in regions with cold winters to avoid weakening the bush.
3. Spring pruning: in February-March, when the buds have become shoots 2 to 3cm (1in) long, prune the young strong branches to one quarter of their length.
Pruning always aims to clear the centre of the bush and remove dead wood, diseased branches, and weak shoots. The most vigorous ones will be kept, usually 3 to 6 well-positioned branches to maintain a beautiful habit. Always prune at a slant, ½ cm or 1cm above a bud facing outward.
Roses are often stained or unsightly at the end of summer, but this is not a problem for their development. These stains are not harmful to the rose, it is a natural phenomenon.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
