They have grown well and even produced some little flowers. I'm sure next summer will be fantastic!

Description

The 'Gentle Shepherd' Daylily is a perennial plant adorned with large ivory-white flowers with a green throat. These large round flowers emerge and repeat from June to August, lasting only one day, hence their name "daylily". They measure 14 cm (6in) in diameter.

The hemerocallis foliage is semi-evergreen and appears in vibrant green strips. Originating from Asia, it is very hardy. It can reach a height of 70 cm (28in) at maturity.

The Daylily is a solitary plant, but it can also be cultivated as a border and in a flower bed. It is ideal for white gardens. You can also mix different varieties of daylilies to achieve flowering from May to September.

Planting and care

Daylilies thrive in sunny areas with cooler temperatures. It's best to avoid excessively dry or shady conditions as they can hinder the flowering process. For optimal growth, plant them in rich, moist, and well-drained soil. Water thoroughly once or twice a week until flower buds appear, and apply liquid fertilizer every two to three weeks. During flowering, watering can be spaced out. Daylilies are generally easy to grow, but they can be vulnerable to rust and collar rot in humid conditions with temperatures above 30°C (86°F). Bacterial rot of stems and leaves can occur during periods with frequent freeze-thaw cycles. Young shoots may be attacked by slugs and snails.
