Description

The Artemisia schmidtiana Nana, or Artemisia, is a dwarf perennial with creeping stems forming a silvery ball. Its soft foliage is composed of delicate evergreen leaves. The decorative foliage is charming.

In summer, the dwarf Schmidt artemisia produces small pale yellow flowers in spikes. Artemisia is a very hardy plant native to the Sakhalin Islands. It can reach a height of 15 cm (6in) at maturity with a spread of 30 cm (12in).

This silvery artemisia is preferably grown in dry and sunny places such as rockeries or borders. You can place it near walls but also as an accompaniment to thyme, for example.

Artemisia 'Nana' is a versatile plant that can be used in many ways. You can plant it with other artemisias in the front of a border or grow it in pots on your terraces and balconies. This lovely plant is a great choice for a white garden and an excellent backdrop for lilies and bulbs. If you plant your lilies among Artemisia 'Nana', they'll be protected from lily beetles.

Planting and care

To keep your Dwarf Wormwood healthy, it's essential to water it while keeping it in sunlight. Plant it in well-drained soil that's dry and poor. Use light soil - heavier soil can harm the young plant. The best soil is sandy and peaty, with pH levels that are neutral to limestone. Once the Dwarf Wormwood is well-rooted, it can survive drought conditions. Prune it at the base in autumn and give it a light pruning in July to improve its foliage. Always be aware of aphids, which can harm the plant.
