Artemisia vulgaris Oriental Limelight

Artemisia vulgaris 'Oriental Limelight', better known as variegated mugwort, is a hardy perennial that can grow in any situation.

Although the species is native to Europe and Siberia, this beautiful variety was obtained in Japan. It forms a dense, bushy clump with gorgeously cut foliage, slightly curled, starting as a very bright pale yellow and maturing to chartreuse.

Artemisia 'Oriental Limelight' is a type of mugwort that produces branched spikes, which are not very attractive. To encourage the growth of new leaves, you can remove these spikes with hedge shears. The new leaves are much more interesting to look at. This plant prefers poor and dry soil, but it can tolerate rich and moist soil if well-drained during winter. Artemisia 'Oriental Limelight' also looks great in a pot because its foliage naturally forms a perfect ball shape.
