Agrimony - Ferme de Sainte Marthe seeds

Agrimony (Agrimonia eupatoria) is a perennial, grown for its medicinal and tinctorial properties. This fabulous plant bears yellow flower clusters in summer. Commonly used to make herbal tea. Sow the seeds under cover in March-April or in their final position in August-September.

Agrimony belongs to the Rosaceae family. It is native to Europe, Asia Minor and North Africa. It forms an erect plant about 50 cm high and 30 cm wide. This perennial has deciduous foliage composed of leaflets with a pubescent underside, grouped in a basal rosette. It blooms from June to September, in the form of long clusters of yellow flowers with five petals, carried on hairy, red-coloured stems. Hardy down to -15°C.

Agrimony is a medicinal plant used since ancient times for its astringent, healing and anti-inflammatory properties. Commonly used to treat poor sight and digestive disorders. Its stems produce an excellent natural yellow dye.

Agrimony likes to grow in a sunny spot, in ordinary, rather cool soil. It can be grown alongside other herbs or medicinal plants such as Chamomile or Arnica. Its pretty blooms will look attractive in perennial flower beds.

Harvest: flowers can be picked from June to September.

Preservation: leaves and flowers can be dried and stored in a dark, dry place.

Useful tip: to limit weeding, mulch the soil with thin layers of grass clippings, if possible mixed with dead leaves. This will keep the ground moist and limit the need for watering.
