Campanula glomerata Caroline

Campanula glomerata Caroline, Clustered Bellflower is a rhizomatous perennial with a bushy habit which forms spreading clumps of upright, stiff stems. These stems produce terminal clusters of single tubular bell-shaped flowers from June to August, measuring 2 to 4 cm (1 to 2in) long. The colour of these flowers is pale pink, deep pink at the tips of the petals.

The leaves of the Clustered Bellflower are ovate to lanceolate (lance-shaped), with rounded teeth. They measure 5 to 10 cm (2 to 4in) long and are dark green and deciduous. The Caroline Bellflower grows up to 50 cm (20in) tall. This plant is native to Europe, except for the North, Turkey, and Asia, and has excellent hardiness. In the wild, it thrives in rock crevices and scree slopes in high mountains, as well as heathlands, meadows, and woodlands.

Bellflowers are valued for their long flowering period and ease of cultivation. Plant them in a cool corner of the garden where they will spread over the years. The glomerata variety thrives in perennial borders and large, part-shaded rock gardens. The delicate hue of the flowers is best preserved in this exposure. The Bellflower is an ornamental plant that enhances bouquets, butterflies are attracted to it. If it disappears in drought, it reappears with the rain.
