1- What do I need?
Here is a non-exhaustive list of materials you will need:
- One or several silicone moulds. A dish or bowl will also do;
- Water;
- String;
- Pair of scissors;
- Leaves from evergreen bushes: Holly, Juniper, Eucalyptus, Spruce, Thuja;
- Berries: Hips, Barberries, Holly, Sea buckthorn, Cotoneaster lacteus...;
- Pruning shear to possibly prune branches and harvest berries;
- Seasonal fruit: kiwi, orange, pomegranate...;
- Small pine cones, hazelnuts, walnuts, bird seeds...
2- How to make a hanging ice decoration?
- Fill the mould or bowl three-quarters full with water;
- Make a loop with a piece of string to attach your hanging decoration;
- Place the node of the string in the water.
- Pour into each mould your fruits, seeds, leaves and other decorations;
- Place your mould in the freezer or outside overnight if it's freezing;
- Once your ice hangings are ready, simply hang them from tree branches and admire them.
3- Tips and advice
- Check the weather so you can keep your hanging decorations as long as possible. After that, nothing stops you from making as many more as you like;
- You can make larger compositions to place on the ground, especially for birds;
- With a bundt mould, you can create a magnificent ice crown;
