Clematis 'Diamantina'

Rarely seen, the Clematis patens ‘Diamantina’ deserves a place in your gardens. From late spring, it produces opulent flowers that can reach 15 cm in diameter. Highly double, they feature a crumpled centre and are adorned with an astonishing mauve-blue colour with purple accents around the edges. At the centre, the stamen, shaped like petals, stand upright, resembling a diamond placed in the middle of the flower… hence its name! If the weather is mild, the flowering is often repeat flowering in September. This extraordinary beauty will bring elegance wherever you find a spot to showcase it. Of medium size (2 to 3 metres high), it bears dense foliage, composed of large deciduous leaves with three lobes. It clings to its support with its tendrils.

Provide it with rich, fresh, well-drained soil or medium, in full sun or partial shade: it will add refinement and originality at the base of a pergola, winding around a tree or large bush, or even on your terrace, planted in a large pot.

Clematis cirrhosa 'Freckles'

Don’t rack your brains trying to find clever colour effects; this clematis takes care of that! The Clematis cirrhosa ‘Freckles’ unfolds in spring with small, brilliantly cut, semi-evergreen foliage, or even evergreen depending on the climate. It produces charming, waxy bell-shaped flowers with surprising pictorial effects: on a cream-white base, a purplish-pink overlays in a heavily speckled pattern. This stunning flowering contrasts with the bright green foliage and occurs in February-March, at a time when it cannot be missed in the still-sleepy garden. Feathery, decorative fruits follow the flowering.

Resistant to temperatures around -12 °C, it can, however, suffer during winters in damp soil. Being a Mediterranean clematis, it thrives in well-drained soil, in full sun, and sheltered from the wind. In the event of summer drought, it may tend to disappear to survive the heat. This medium-sized variety can climb up to 2 or 3 m in height and spread just as much, making it ideal for covering trellises, walls, or shrubs, and it also performs very well in pots with the support of a stake.

Clematis 'Octopus'

Clematis macropetala ‘Octopus’ is a beautiful climber that can reach up to 3 m if it finds the necessary support, but it can also spread as groundcover among bushes. And this original liana and early bloomer will display in April-May on last year’s wood curious bell-shaped flowers, 4 to 5 cm in diameter, with numerous frilly petals, resembling small octopuses. This is indeed the name chosen for it: ‘Octopus’, ‘octopus’ in English. These flowers, followed by decorative feathery fruits, are a beautiful deep shade of purple.

It is best to plant this lovely clematis in a sunny or partially shaded spot in fertile, deep, and well-drained soil. Very hardy, it can be planted throughout the hexagon, with winter mulching at the base in the coldest regions.

Clematis viticella 'Rosalyn'

One can only commend the Dutch nurseryman who recently had the genius to obtain this Clematis viticella ‘Rosalyn’! And for good reason: this sumptuous climbing plant produces countless small double flowers with frilled edges, in a deep reddish-purple, throughout the summer, contrasting beautifully with its lemon-green stamens. Remarkable and original, they almost completely cover the foliage and the support on which it spreads and climbs with rapid growth.

As with other herbaceous species, plant the ‘Rosalyn’ clematis preferably in full sun, in fertile, humus-bearing, well-drained soil, taking care to shade the roots and the base of the stems. A wonderful little liana that is very hardy, it climbs everywhere and adapts perfectly to pot cultivation to make the most of its long flowering period.

Clematis 'Spiky'

Difficult to imagine, when planted in spring or autumn, that an unimpressive pot will give rise to such drapery! Its tendrils cling to any support, the Clematis ‘Spiky’ will cover trellises, fences, or neighbouring bushes to about 2.50 m. Early-flowering, it blooms on last year’s wood from April to May. Unusual, it produces bell-shaped flowers, with numerous frayed petals in a rather soft blue-violet colour, opening to reveal a heart of acid green stamens.

Plant this beautiful original in fertile, deep, well-drained soil that remains moist, protecting its base from drying out with a tile or a groundcover plant. It will prefer sunny or partially shaded exposures.

Clematis 'Pitcheri'

With its pendulous flowers resembling lanterns, the Clematisviorna ‘Pitcheri’ exudes undeniable charm and originality. This herbaceous clematis revives each spring and blooms throughout the summer, from June to September, in bell-shaped flowers measuring 4 cm in diameter that open downwards. They are blue with white marbling and feature a small heart of yellow-green stamens. The exterior is white-purple.

Clinging by itself with its tendrils, this clematis quickly reaches a height of 4 m when planted in full sun or partial shade, in fertile, deep, and well-drained soil. It is hardy down to -15 °C.

Clematis 'Green Passion'

Clematis x patens ‘Green Passion’ is a new variety that stands out for its large, very double and frilly flowers, in an astonishing soft green with a fluffy reverse, which bloom in May-June and reflower in September. This hardy, deciduous clematis reaches 2 to 3 m: it climbs everywhere thanks to its tendrils and adapts perfectly to pot cultivation leaning against a support. The flowering is followed by feathery silver-grey fruits that persist until winter, making it decorative for a long time.

It is best to plant it in full sun or light shade, in fertile, humus-bearing soil that is well-drained, always shading the roots and base.
