7 Yellow-flowered Alstroemeria
Flamboyant and exotic
Contents
Deciduous perennial with an exotic temperament, the Alstroemeria or Inca Lily offers original and highly coloured flowers throughout the summer and into early autumn. To succeed with it, you need to find the right location, either in full sun or partial shade, in well-drained soil that remains cool in summer. Its hardiness varies, so feel free to plant it in pots as well; it is easy to grow and will brighten your terraces or balconies for many months.
Yellow Alstroemerias are adorned with flowers that are sometimes soft, sometimes spicy, depending on their shades of yellow and the patterns of the petals. Several series of cultivars, varying in size, are renowned for their hardiness and floribundity. Discover yellow-flowered Alstroemerias, in pastel or warm tones, whether solid or multicoloured.
Alstroemeria 'Duchess Marie'
In a duo of yellows: bright yellow and soft yellow, the Alstroemeria ‘Duchesses Marie’ features flowers composed of narrow petals at the centre, a bright yellow streaked with brown, surrounded by broad creamy, pale yellow petals. Its foliage, dark bluish green, is present at the upper part of the stems. The plant, small in size, reaches 35 cm in all directions, forming a dense, rounded clump. It blooms continuously from June to October in cool soil. In winter, it tolerates frosts down to -7 °C, classified in USDA zone 8b.
Its size and average hardiness make it a good candidate for pot cultivation, to be placed on a terrace or balcony. Pair it with pots filled with other Inca Lilies from the ‘Duchesses d’Anjou’ series or tangy perennials like Lady’s Mantle.
