With their large, full flowers and sometimes impressive height, Giant Dahlias are widely used in the background of flower beds to create an interesting focal point. You are sure to find one that suits you among the more than 30 varieties, some of which are exclusive, that we offer.
Whether you are looking for flower size or stem height, discover their characteristics to make the right choice and find out about the best of the Dahlia ‘Café au Lait’ and the bicolour ‘Myrtle’s Folly.’
Take to the heights
Some Giant Dahlias are impressive due to their size: their tall stems can reach up to 3 m in height! They are perfect for structuring a flowerbed with their imposing stature or to serve as a focal point in the background of a mixed border of perennials or in the vegetable garden. They also make stunning bouquets.
The tallest: Dahlia Imperialis
Also known as Tree Dahlia or “Bamboo Dahlia” because its stem resembles that of the latter. This arborescent giant measures between 2 to 4 m and may therefore require staking. It will thrive in full sun and sheltered from the wind. It blooms slightly later than others, from late August to November. Its pale pink or white flowers, small in size, reach 10 to 15 cm in diameter.

Good to know
If these varieties of Dahlias withstand the wind well, it is necessary to stake them to prevent them from bending under the weight of the flowers.
Pinching is essential to obtain larger flowers; for this, remove all flower buds as they appear, keeping only one or two per stem. The flowers that will develop may, in some cases, exceed 30 cm in diameter, like the variety ‘Emory Paul’, which gives excellent results. The stems, being more fragile, must be staked very high to support the weight of the flowers.
