Contents
Fargesia bamboos are naturally non-running bamboos. They provide an excellent alternative to Phyllostachys, known for its invasive nature. Low-maintenance and very hardy, they grow in compact clumps of 2 to 7 m in height at ripeness and establish quickly without the need for a rhizome barrier. With colourful culms or impressive stature, they are perfect as a standalone feature to create a beautiful privacy or windbreak hedge in a large garden or to create intimate spaces in pots on a terrace or balcony. There are dozens of cultivars, most often derived from Fargesia rufa, F. robusta, F. murielae, F. denudata and Fargesia nitida. Here is our selection of the most beautiful varieties!
Fargesia papyrifera ‘Blue Dragon®’
The Fargesia papyrifera ‘Blue Dragon’ is one of the most beautiful varieties with coloured culms! It is an incredibly graphic bamboo that does not go unnoticed. It is unique for the colour of its canes, which, when young, are covered in a blue bloom. This variety also boasts superb matte green foliage, perfectly coordinated with the steel blue of its culms. And it makes a statement with its generous dimensions! Capable of reaching 6 metres in just a few years, while remaining well in place without ever becoming invasive, this bamboo forms an upright and screening clump perfect for managing unwanted views or creating small, exotic groves. A bit more sensitive to cold (-15°C) than other Fargesias, it is best placed in a sheltered spot away from drying and cold winds.
