Large-Flowered Rose 'Henri Matisse': Flowers as Unique as Paintings

The ‘Henri Matisse’ large-flowered rose (‘Deltisse’) is a modern hybrid tea bush rose, from the ‘Rosiers des Peintres’ collection, created to pay tribute to the Impressionists with unique coloured shades and pigments.

The large double flowers display red, magenta-pink and white colours, which, at random, are more or less striate or variegated. Each flower is therefore unique. The incredible multicoloured shades of this rose’s flowers evolve with brightness and exposure: the more the flowers receive sun, the more dazzling and vivid they become.

With a swirling form and made up of around thirty petals, these large 10–12 cm flowers cannot go unnoticed in the garden. Roses are either solitary or grouped in small clusters of 2 or 3.

They diffuse a light scent of rose and raspberry.

This perpetual variety blooms from May to October and proves quite disease-resistant.

Of modest size, this vigorous bush reaches 90 cm in height at maturity with a 60 cm spread and offers dense, glossy green foliage.

Growing and pairing of the ‘Henri Matisse’ large-flowered rose

Grow this rose in a sunny position to enjoy the most vivid colour shades, or in semi-shade in the hottest regions of southern France. Modern roses tolerate most soils, but soil without excess lime, rich and well drained will be ideal.

As flowers fade, remove spent blooms to encourage the development of new buds throughout summer. Carry out pruning suited to perpetual roses in autumn, then the following spring.

The ‘Henri Matisse’ large-flowered rose is a true work of art in its own right. Grown in isolation, either in a large pot to dress a terrace or balcony or planted in the ground, it will be an unmissable centrepiece in the garden.

In a French-style garden, it will be set among clipped box balls or a yew hedge.

In borders, pair with perennials bearing red, pink or white flowers: asters, aubrietas in temperate climate, persicarias, phlox, crambes, …

Finally, its roses are particularly suitable for bouquets, subtly brightening and scenting your interior.

Dwarf rose 'Bordure Vive': perfect for growing in pots

dwarf rose ‘Bordure Vive’ is the shortest variety among polyantha hybrid roses and part of Delbard ‘Bordures’ collection, which groups small-sized, hardy and robust roses.

Its small double flowers, 4 cm across, are a vivid, lively pink that lightens to a paler pink at the centre. They are grouped in clusters and set off by mat dark green foliage.

This rose offers early flowering from May, continuing until first frosts, almost continuously.

Only 40 cm in height and spread. Its compact, bushy habit and dome-shaped silhouette make it an ideal variety for growing in a pot.

Cultivation and companion planting for dwarf rose ‘Bordure Vive’

Dwarf rose ‘Bordure Vive’ will be happy in rich, moist soil, especially in summer, and in a sunny position. In regions with particularly hot summers, favour an east-facing aspect and ensure regular watering so soil does not dry out.

An application of special rose fertiliser will also help it be more disease-resistant.

Ideal for growing in a decorative pot or urn, the small silhouette of this dwarf rose will also slip easily into a border, bed or hedge.

It will set off small bushes (abelias, hydrangeas, barberries, ceanothus, dogwoods…), will of course pair very well with other dwarf roses from the ‘Bordure’ collection or with perennials (geraniums, campanulas, lupins…).

Climbing rose ‘Papi Delbard’: a cascade of flowers with an enchanting fragrance

The climbing rose ‘Papi Delbard’ belongs to ‘Souvenirs d’Amours Parfumés’ series, grouping varieties with a romantic habit, bearing flowers reminiscent of old roses and exhaling strong perfumes.

Its double flowers 11 cm across, solitary or borne in clusters, reveal around thirty petals. The flowers display warm colours such as pink, yellow, apricot or orange, depending on exposure and nature of the soil. They resemble beautiful old-fashioned roses.

The flowers give off a surprisingly fresh fruity-rose scent: floral notes are in fact combined with notes of citrus trees (grapefruit, lemongrass) and of white fruits (apricot, peach).

This very perpetual rose flowers from May to October, even November if first frosts are late, and proves little susceptible to disease.

Vigorous and hardy, this rose will reach at ripeness 2.5 metres in height for 1.5 metres spread. Its long thorny stems bear dark green foliage, perfectly showcasing the colourful shades of the flowers.

Cultivation and pairing of climbing rose ‘Papi Delbard’

Climbing rose ‘Papi Delbard’ likes warmth, well-aerated light soils. Sheltered from scorching sun exposure and watered regularly in periods of drought, it will thrive and offer its warm shades for several months.

Resistant and robust, it requires little care.

It can be grown along an arch, pergola or wall, which it will cover delicately.

This rose pairs well with other climbing roses and its bases, less attractive, will be dressed by a beautiful flowering of clematis or of sweet peas.

In a scented flowering hedge, lilacs, ceanothus or mock orange will be good companions for our climbing rose.

Large-flowered rose 'Mamy Blue': a rare colour and fragrance

The large-flowered rose ‘Mamy Blue’ (‘Delblue’) is a modern hybrid tea bush rose, combining aesthetic and fragrant qualities.

Blue is one of the rare colours not found naturally in roses. Here, our rose displays a rare mauve-blue shade, one of the bluest of Delbard’s creations. Depending on the nature of the soil, it can also take on pinkish hues.

Its large double flowers, grouped and measuring 10 cm, in a turbinate cup shape, are also highly fragrant: they reveal bold notes of honey, violet, hay, ylang-ylang, lemongrass and geranium.

This very floriferous perpetual variety displays its incredible range of colours from May to October.

This rose with a bush habit reaches a height of 90 cm with a 60 cm spread at ripeness. Its branches bear glossy green foliage.

Cultivation and pairing of the large-flowered rose ‘Mamy Blue’

To enjoy the full intensity of its colour, grow the ‘Mamy Blue’ rose in a sunny position, but protected from the hottest midday sun in regions with dry summers. Modern roses are tolerant regarding soil type, but should avoid excess lime and very compact soils.

Removing faded flowers as they appear will stimulate the growth of new shoots.

In the garden, ‘Mamy Blue’ will bring a romantic touch when paired with other roses or flowers in shades of pink, mauve and blue.

In a lovely border, perennial plants, such as geraniums, the bushy sages, the foxgloves or small shrubs such as lavender or rosemary will be perfect companions.

As purple pairs well with yellow through colour complementarity, you can also opt for sun-toned flowers: alchemillas, euphorbias, rudbeckias, peonies, …

Finally, its roses are well suited to bouquets, which will last up to 15 days in a vase, diffusing all their fragrance.

Large-flowered rose 'Sophie Rochas': one of the most refined

Large-flowered rose ‘Sophie Rochas’ (‘Delroch’) is a recent rose registered in 2017, also belonging to tea hybrids. It is a variety inspired by fashion and perfume house Rochas.

Its large double flowers of 10 cm are true solitary pompons, with dentate petals. They display a powdered-rose colour, dragee pink or ballerina pink, depending on naming.

Perpetual flowering extends from May to October.

Its powerful fragrance exudes notes of powdered rose and lilac, lifted by tangy notes of citrus trees, lemon and grapefruit.

Its abundant green foliage elegantly sets off its flowers.

Disease-resistant, vigorous and hardy down to -20°C, this variety forms a compact bush measuring 70 cm in height by 50 cm across.

Cultivation and pairing of the large-flowered rose ‘Sophie Rochas’

Large-flowered rose ‘Sophie Rochas’ is clearly an ideal candidate for romantic, elegant gardens. Paired with other white or pink roses, it will create a charming colour harmony.

In mixed borders, it will accompany flowering of summer bushes, such as hydrangeas, dwarf buddleias or garden hibiscus.

Phlox, delphiniums, hardy geraniums or lychnis will also pair beautifully with our rose in a magnificent flowering border.
